If the agreement is finalized, Nexon may secure the rights to develop a sequel to StarCraft II, potentially paving the way for StarCraft III.
NEXON boasts one of the largest game portfolios in Asia, with a library spanning live-service games, mobile titles, and PC games that have dominated the South Korean market for decades.
Even nearly 30 years after its release, StarCraft remains firmly among the top ten most popular PC games in South Korea.
StarCraft has never truly faded away in South Korea; it simply hasn't received the investment it deserves. Nexon's acquisition of the development rights is undoubtedly a direct appeal to its large and loyal player base.
Notably, Nexon is also developing a standalone StarCraft shooter, which could be announced at BlizzCon 2026.
