Foreign Media Try Out Project Mugen: A Truly Enjoyable Open World!

Recently, the open-world urban action game Project Mugen released a new gameplay trailer and confirmed its official launch date as January 15, 2027. The game will be available on PS5, Steam, iOS, and Android platforms.

During recent media previews, developer Naked Rain unveiled the game's second city, Chongxiao. This area fuses the aesthetics of Shanghai and Hangzhou: futuristic skyscrapers with floating holograms coexist with ancient temples featuring golden roofs, while service robots slowly roam the streets alongside pedestrians. Journalists also experienced Longxi Village in the suburbs—a rural area surrounded by tea plantations where players can engage in interactive mini-games like hand-roasting tea and making traditional rice cakes.

The city itself is packed with dozens of leisure activities: from movie theaters, arcades, gyms, and cat cafés to mahjong and random street events. Some media outlets have described the overall experience as "an open world that's genuinely fun to play."

According to the developers, players can drive almost any vehicle on the map—from motorcycles, skateboards, and three-wheeled trucks to sports cars, helicopters, and even futuristic flying cars.

The combat system blends kung fu moves, telekinetic powers, and the ability to disarm enemies and seize their gear. Story missions seamlessly integrate stealth, chases, and large-scale destruction. The developers emphasize that there are no passive cutscenes—players retain direct control of their characters during key narrative moments.

Multiple media outlets have confirmed that Project Mugen features no gacha mechanics. The game offers multiple playable characters with different professions, allowing players to switch freely. Switching characters affects exploration methods—for example, couriers can enhance their abilities by delivering packages on motorcycles. All characters are obtained for free, with monetization relying entirely on cosmetic items.

Project Mugen will launch on January 15, 2027, operating under a free-to-play model.
