With less than two weeks remaining until the September 4th release of the theatrical anime film Sekiro: NO DEFEAT, the officials have released another new clip from the feature film—showcasing the one-on-one duel between the protagonist "Wolf" and Oniwa Katabe Masataka, the guardian of Ashina Castle's main gate.

This roughly one-minute clip is presented in fully hand-drawn 2D animation, meticulously depicting the sparks from clashing blades and spears, dust kicked up by warhorses, and the heavy breathing of the two combatants. Oniwa Katabe Masataka makes his entrance riding his beloved horse "Onikage," launching a fierce attack on Wolf from atop his mount with a cross-shaped spear, the powerful strikes even shattering the ground.
Wolf remains undaunted, skillfully using his Prosthetic Tools and grappling hook to constantly change positions, seeking opportunities to counterattack amidst the barrage of spear thrusts. The iconic line from the original game—"I am Oniwa Katabe Masataka! Rushing in like that will get you killed, kid!"—is also faithfully recreated in the clip.
Sekiro: NO DEFEAT is produced by Qzil.la studio using entirely hand-drawn 2D animation, with the producers explicitly stating that no generative AI was used in its creation. The film is directed by Kenichi Tsutsumi (in his feature film directorial debut), written by Takuya Satō, with character designs by Takahiro Kishida. The entire original voice cast from the game returns: Daisuke Namikawa (Wolf), Miyuki Sato (Kuro), and Kenjirō Tsuda (Genichiro Ashina). The music is composed by Shitta Mokusha, with the theme song being Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Blu."
