The highly anticipated simulation management game Prison Architect 2 has endured a long wait of over two years since its first delay announcement in 2024. Now, developer Paradox has finally sent out positive signals—a new closed Beta test is scheduled for September 2026, suggesting that the official release may no longer be far off.
Prison Architect 2 was initially slated for a 2024 release, then pushed back to September of that year before being indefinitely delayed. In April 2026, Paradox held a Beta test, marking the first official communication since the delay. Now, several months later, the company has announced another closed beta test starting in September.
According to the previously open registration form (now closed), applicants were required to accept non-disclosure agreement terms, meaning the test content is unlikely to leak. The test runs from September 9 to 15. It is currently unclear whether a public beta will follow after the closed beta concludes.
Looking back to August 2024, when Paradox announced an indefinite delay, they stated, "We need more time to optimize the game's performance and content." They offered refunds to those who had pre-ordered and did not commit to a new release date. Since then, the game has been unavailable for purchase, leading some to mistakenly believe the project had been cancelled.
It has been over ten years since the original Prison Architect was released, launching not only on PC but also on Xbox, PlayStation, and iOS. The sequel, Prison Architect 2, is planned for release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
