According to the leakers themselves, who operate under the name "Cyberleek," leaking confidential materials is a "form of protest." These hackers published an exaggerated manifesto on their website. They claimed to be retaliating against the publisher because Take-Two and Rockstar Games forced players to accept all-digital pre-orders, sell exclusive paid content, and implement corporate policies that rendered purchased games useless once servers were shut down. The hackers stated, "Allow us to clarify: we are not doing this to make a quick buck."
In reality, their actions stood in stark contrast to those lofty ideals. Investigations by independent portals and Dexerto revealed that alongside releasing GTA 6 screenshots and gameplay footage, the group heavily promoted its own cryptocurrency, a token called $CYBERLEEK, issued on the Solana blockchain platform.
Long before these leaks went massively viral, the token had already been "warming up" in trading since August 15. On August 18, as hype surrounding new gameplay footage of Jason reached its peak, $CYBERLEEK saw an astronomical market cap and trading volume of approximately $12 million in just one day. The hackers claimed to their fan-investors that the funds raised were to protect their operations from "Take-Two's corporate legal counterattacks" and to finance "confidential future plans," but they flatly refused to provide transparent reports on how these funds were allocated.
Furthermore, the internet is flooded with fake Cyberleek channels spreading old leaks and even AI-generated videos, while distributing phishing links to other scam coins to gullible viewers. Finally, GTA 6 gameplay footage is scheduled for release on August 27, with the official launch date set for November 19, 2026.
