The gaming industry is booming, with more and more developers striving to bring their ideas to life. Recently, Thomas Bidaux, CEO of the renowned UK consulting firm ICO Partners, released the latest statistics on new games on Steam. The data shows that as of August 31, the number of new weekly releases on Steam reached a record-breaking 720 titles last week. However, only 26% of these new games received more than 10 reviews, which is hardly an encouraging sign.
Thomas Bidaux regularly monitors and compiles statistics on new Steam releases. Last week's figure broke the previous record of 670 new weekly releases, set just recently in the final week of July.
Additionally, the report analyzed a key indicator of visibility for new releases: the number of reviews. Among them, 190 games (about 26%) received more than 10 reviews, while only 95 surpassed 50 reviews, 62 exceeded 100 reviews, and a mere 10 managed to gather over 1,000 reviews.
Nowadays, more and more developers are investing their personal time, money, and energy into creating new games. However, those who truly achieve both fame and fortune remain few and far between. In such a fiercely competitive environment, Where do you think the true path forward lies for independent game developers pursuing their dreams?
