Issues with NVIDIA's Latest Driver: Flickering or Sudden Brightness Drop

At the end of last month, NVIDIA released the GeForce Game Ready 616.56 WHQL driver, offering optimal gaming experiences for Star Wars: Squadrons, Remnant: From the Ashes, and Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, which support DLSS and RTX technologies. It also fixed several game-specific and general issues. However, it now appears that the new driver may be causing more problems for some users than the ones it resolved.

According to Notebookcheck, users have been complaining about display issues since the release of the GeForce Game Ready 616.56 WHQL driver. The most common symptom is random screen flickering. This issue is particularly frustrating because it is not limited to games; it can also occur randomly on the desktop or while watching videos.

Some users have also reported sudden changes in screen brightness. In certain cases, the screen may briefly go black or noticeably dim while browsing the web or performing other daily desktop tasks. Moving the mouse is required to restore the display to normal. Additionally, some users reported that after installing the new driver, colors appeared overly saturated or looked abnormal, although they eventually returned to normal.

NVIDIA is aware of the issues reported by users and has stated that fixes are underway. It remains to be seen whether NVIDIA will release a GeForce Hotfix driver or wait until the next official driver update.
