The term "reportedly" is used because this price hasn't been officially announced by Xbox, but comes from a well-known and reliable industry leaker. The website Dealabs has a perfect track record of accurately leaking game hardware prices, and it states that the console will be priced at €899.99 in Europe, with an expected MSRP of $899.99 in the United States.
If the leak is accurate—and it currently seems highly likely—the X25 Series X will become the most expensive home console Xbox has ever released. Following the recent round of price hikes, the disc-less Series X is priced at $749.99, while the charcoal model with a disc drive is currently the most expensive version on sale, at $799.99.
This Transparent Green Series X is not only $100 more expensive than the second-most-pricy Xbox console on the market, but also $100 more than the 2TB Galaxy Black Series X. This high-spec, large-storage model was previously priced at $799.99 but was discontinued during Xbox's recent price adjustment. Perhaps this was done because continuing to sell it would have required pricing it above the $900 X25 model. Even Xbox wouldn't dare sell a nearly six-year-old console for $1,000—at least, not yet.
If the X25 is priced at $900, it will be on par with the PlayStation 5 Pro following Sony's latest price increase. This isn't a favorable comparison for Xbox, as this new Series X model won't offer better performance than its predecessor, nor does it feature expanded storage like the Pro version. It's essentially the same hardware in a new shell color.
Despite this, and with no end in sight for the trend of rising console prices, this limited-edition model is almost certain to sell out within minutes of pre-orders going live. This isn't just due to its limited availability and nostalgic appeal, but also because leaks suggest Xbox plans to launch the console on November 27, Black Friday, perfectly timed for the holiday shopping season.
