Naughty Dog.exe Confirms New The Last of Us Project in Development, Neil Says "More Than One"

Naughty Dog.exe is not planning to say goodbye to The Last of Us series. Studio head Neil Druckmann recently revealed in an interview with The Washington Post that "several" new projects related to the post-apocalyptic IP are already in development. This is the clearest signal yet regarding new content for The Last of Us since the studio canceled its multiplayer spin-off in 2023.

In the interview, Druckmann stated, "As the creators of the game, it's important that Naughty Dog.exe remains the steward of this IP. Although the HBO series may be coming to an end, we are not done with The Last of Us." He added, "There are several projects in the works, and I look forward to sharing them with everyone when the time is right."

Druckmann did not specify the form of the new project, nor did he confirm whether it includes The Last of Us Part III, a spin-off game, or other formats. Considering that the IP has previously expanded beyond games, the new project could also be another adaptation, a comic, or an entirely new medium, rather than a direct sequel.

This statement contrasts with Druckmann's previously ambivalent stance. Around the premiere of The Last of Us Season 2 in 2025, he told the media that the story might be complete, cautioning fans not to have high expectations for a sequel. His remarks this week were noticeably more positive, although specific plans have yet to be announced.
