Capcom's reboot of the classic IP, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, was officially released today. However, shortly after launching on Steam, the game was flooded with negative reviews from players. As of press time, out of 122 reviews, the positive rating stands at only 61%, resulting in an overall evaluation of "Mixed."
A large number of players have reported severe launch and performance issues, including: no response after clicking "Start Game," black screens upon launch, and freezing during shader compilation. Some players noted that while the demo ran smoothly, they were unable to enter the full version. One player wrote in a review: "I haven't even seen the game interface yet. Clicking 'Start Game' yields no response, and I've already earned a Steam trading card."
In response to the launch issues, the player community has compiled several temporary solutions, including: clearing the Steam download cache and verifying game integrity, deleting third-party tool-related files in the Steam root directory, and clearing the local NVIDIA DXCache folder. Nevertheless, many players report that these steps did not resolve the problem, leading them to request refunds and leave negative reviews.
Beyond performance and launch failures, some players pointed out that the full release does not support custom controller button mapping, considering it a lack of feature completeness for a launched title. Regarding the redemption of demo bonuses, players reported needing to manually adjust settings within the privacy options and relying on Steam Cloud save synchronization.
As of press time, Capcom has yet to issue an official statement or release a patch addressing these issues. With more players purchasing the game, the number of negative reviews continues to rise, putting this highly anticipated reboot in a serious reputation crisis right from the start.
