Viewership data for the 2026 Pokémon World Championships has set a new series record. According to esports analytics firm Esports Charts, the peak concurrent viewership during the Pokémon Champions VGC finals surpassed 215,000, marking a milestone as the first time a Pokémon esports event has broken the 200,000 viewer barrier.
The previous viewership record was held by the 2024 World Championships, with a peak of approximately 123,900 viewers. This year's VGC competition nearly doubled that figure.
In addition to VGC, the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), Pokémon GO, and Pokémon UNITE categories all recorded their highest-ever viewership at this year's World Championships. Notably, the TCG, UNITE, and GO events each attracted over 150,000 peak viewers for the first time.
A key factor behind the significant viewership growth was Nintendo and The Pokémon Company's greatly enhanced "co-streaming" strategy for this year's event. The World Championships were broadcast simultaneously on over 100 independent channels, compared to last year, when only Pokémon UNITE had more than 50 co-streaming channels.
The viewership performance of this year's World Championships marks a significant leap in the audience size for Pokémon esports, providing important insights for the broadcast strategy of future events in the series.
