The action game Tides of Oblivion has replaced the voice actor for its protagonist, Gwendolyn. Angela Santalbano takes over from Jennifer English, who stepped down from the lead role due to health reasons. The development team will not ask the new actor to imitate her predecessor's performance.
In an interview with GamesRadar+ during Gamescom 2026, Game Director and Co-CEO of the studio, Ary Chen, stated that both actors have their own unique styles, which the team respects and appreciates. Their communication primarily revolved around how to understand and interpret Gwendolyn.
English confirmed her involvement in Tides of Oblivion in early 2025 and had devoted considerable time to shaping the character before stepping down from the voice role. She currently remains involved in the project as a consultant, assisting Santalbano in understanding the game and the character's requirements.
Ary Chen stated that communication between the two actors would also help Santalbano form her own understanding of the protagonist. The development team hopes she will perform in her own way, rather than replicating English's previous interpretation.
English previously voiced Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3 and participated in Elden Ring and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Her successor, Santalbano, voiced Grace in Resident Evil Requiem.
Tides of Oblivion has not yet announced a release window. English will continue to participate in the character transition as a consultant.
