In a recent interview with The Guardian, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that the studio deliberately avoids establishing fixed development principles, as strict rules can lead to conservative and stale games, while maintaining creative openness is key to consistently delivering fresh experiences.
In an interview, Hidetaka Miyazaki candidly stated: "We don't have a deliberate FromSoftware creed—'this is how we make games'—because once you start doing that, your work becomes rigid and conservative. You end up having to follow a set of rules and philosophies, which stops being fun and prevents you from making truly enjoyable games."
He elaborated: "I think at least philosophically, what has worked for us is focusing first on what we find interesting. I believe this creates a strong throughline for our games, and it remains the core focus whenever we conceptualize new projects."
FromSoftware is renowned for titles like Elden Ring, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls, each offering distinct core experiences. Their upcoming Switch 2 exclusive, Nightreign, further embodies this philosophy by drawing inspiration from extraction shooters and board games, marking a significant departure from the studio's previous works.
While no specific release date has been announced for Nightreign, it is scheduled to launch sometime in 2026. The game previously underwent online testing, giving players their first taste of the experience.
