According to VGC journalist Jordan Middler on the Nextlander podcast, Konami may be preparing Metal Gear: Master Collection Vol. 3, planned to include Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and a technically upgraded version of Metal Gear V: The Phantom Pain. Middler also emphasized that this information has not been officially confirmed and may ultimately prove inaccurate.
Middler stated that, according to what he has heard, the concept for Volume 3 is to bundle Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance with a "remastered version" of The Phantom Pain. He explained that while the PC version of The Phantom Pain performed well, the console versions have yet to receive an "enhanced edition" similar to other titles in the series, making it a logical inclusion for the collection.
Regarding the specifics of the upgrade, Middler noted that the information he received points to straightforward technical improvements, such as achieving 60 FPS on modern consoles, rather than restoring cut content from the game. This means The Phantom Pain would appear in the collection with higher performance specifications, while Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance would officially launch on contemporary platforms as part of the modern Metal Gear product line for the first time.
However, including Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance may involve copyright complexities (as it was developed by PlatinumGames rather than Konami's internal team), requiring agreements regarding its re-release. Currently, no details have been disclosed about whether such a partnership has been reached.
Middler also speculated that Volume 3 might be the final installment of the "Master Collection" series. Konami could use this collection to cover the remaining major Metal Gear titles before deciding on the future direction of the franchise, including plans for remakes like Metal Gear Delta: Snake Eater.
This rumor comes as Konami continues its efforts to bring the Metal Gear series to modern platforms. Previously, Master Collection Vol. 2 successfully brought Metal Gear Solid 4 out of its PS3 exclusivity, making it available on other platforms for the first time.
As of now, Konami has not made any official announcement regarding Master Collection Vol. 3. Middler clearly stated in the podcast that the information he shared was merely hearsay and not confirmed by Konami, warning listeners that the rumor might be inaccurate.
