Bandai Namco Entertainment has released a character customization trailer for Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 3, highlighting custom characters and the combat system. The game introduces the Android race and allows players to learn techniques from over 130 characters.
Players can choose to embody one of six races: Earthlings, Saiyans, Namekians, Frieza's race, Majins, and Androids. Set in Age 1000, the game takes place in a more prosperous West City, where players embark on an adventure as members of the "GS Team," experiencing new stories alongside their partners.
Character customization goes beyond appearance. Players can adjust their character's movement, transformations, attack styles, and combat roles through systems such as Fighting Style, Soul Support, Awakening Skills, Soul Switching, and Abilities. Among these, Fighting Style changes actions and combos based on the selected soul character, including flying, idle poses, footwork, guarding, and attack transitions.
Soul Support allows players to summon support characters during battle, with different characters providing buffs or launching additional attacks. When using Soul Switch, the mentor character's soul temporarily inhabits the player, changing the character's appearance and enabling the use of the mentor's Super Attacks and Ultimate Attacks.
Players can also forgo Soul Switching in favor of race-specific Awakening Skills. The development team adjusted the awakening mechanism based on feedback gathered from various events and demo sessions: the awakened state no longer has a time limit but is instead linked to the Ki gauge. Characters can remain awakened as long as they have Ki; once Ki is depleted or enters a Ki Break state, the character reverts to their normal form.
The game also incorporates "Ki Charge" into basic controls, allowing players to restore Ki and fill the Awakening Skill gauge. The ability system interacts with battle equipment, outfits, souls equipped, and character races. Some abilities not only adjust stats but also increase the number of Ki blasts, extend their range, or enhance dodge maneuvers and movement distance.
It has been officially confirmed that the game features over 130 characters whose techniques can be learned, including some non-playable characters. Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 3 is scheduled for release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, with support for Simplified and Traditional Chinese subtitles.
