Confirmed! DLSS 5 Not Exclusive to RTX 50 Series; RTX 40 Series to Receive Support Later

NVIDIA has officially confirmed that the company is working to bring DLSS 5 neural rendering technology to the previous generation of GeForce RTX 40 series "Ada Lovelace" architecture graphics cards. Previously, it was widely believed that DLSS 5 would be an exclusive feature for the RTX 50 series "Blackwell" and future products, with no backward compatibility.

According to an official statement from NVIDIA, DLSS 5 is the "most computationally demanding model" to date. Since its initial release this March, the team has achieved a fivefold performance improvement and continues to optimize. The current priority is performance tuning for the RTX 50 series, with corresponding model updates expected later this autumn. Once the performance of the 50 series is fully optimized, NVIDIA plans to extend official support to the RTX 40 series.

DLSS 5 has officially launched with 2K Games' latest title, NBA 2K27. It initially supports all RTX 50 series GPUs, RTX 50 laptops, and the GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform, allowing players to experience the effects of neural rendering technology.

Currently, DLSS 5 is optimized for the fifth-generation Tensor Cores of the Blackwell architecture, while support for the fourth-generation Tensor Cores of Ada Lovelace is still being optimized. Previously, NVIDIA used two RTX 5090 graphics cards in parallel for DLSS 5 demonstrations, but after optimization, it can now be driven by a single card. Players may still need to wait patiently to see if previous-generation graphics cards can deliver ideal performance.
