Onimusha: Way of the Sword Peaks at Just Over 60,000 Concurrent Players on Steam

Onimusha: Way of the Sword officially launched today, priced at 298 yuan for the standard edition and 338 yuan for the deluxe edition in the Steam China region. The game features Denuvo DRM and supports Simplified Chinese text and voiceovers. As of now, the game has received "Very Positive" reviews on Steam overall, with "Mostly Positive" reviews from the Simplified Chinese community.

According to SteamDB, the launch performance of Onimusha: Way of the Sword was unremarkable, with a current peak concurrent player count of just over 60,000, which is not even in the same league as Resident Evil 9's peak of 340,000.

If we compare it to the new IP CogniSapiens, which had a Steam peak concurrent player count of 68,000, Onimusha: Way of the Sword's peak is still growing, and the arrival of the weekend might push this figure to around 70,000.

Considering that CogniSapiens is a brand-new IP, while Onimusha has significantly higher influence and recognition, the commercial performance of this new title is indeed somewhat below expectations.

In terms of player reviews, the Chinese community is mainly complaining about technical issues with the PC version of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, such as the stealth removal of DualSense controller support before launch, game crashes, and inability to start the game.
