Ghost of Yōtei will launch its Complete Edition on October 2. Recently, SIE and Sucker Punch revealed details about the single-player combat survival mode "Most Wanted" on the official PlayStation Blog.
Jin Sakai Returns to Ghost of Yōtei's "Most Wanted" Mode: A Deep Dive into the New Single-Player Combat Survival Mode
In the latest State of Play, it was confirmed that Jin Sakai will appear in the "Most Wanted" mode of Ghost of Yōtei! We are thrilled to see the protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima return with his four stances as one of the playable characters in this new mode.
Let's recap the information revealed last month: the "Most Wanted" mode included in the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition is a brand-new single-player combat survival mode.
"Most Wanted" features roguelike design elements, where players choose one of four characters to take on increasingly difficult bounties. Completing missions grants buffs and upgrades, allowing players to accumulate character strength and become more powerful as they hunt their targets.
We wanted "Most Wanted" to feel like an extension of Ghost of Yōtei's core combat mechanics, allowing players to engage with familiar weapons and systems during missions, then transforming these elements into new experiences. This enables players to experiment with different characters and equipment skills to find the loadout that suits them best.
Next, let's briefly introduce how "Most Wanted" works. Before starting a mission, you need to visit the bounty board to select the bounty you wish to accept. Each bounty targets a member of the Yōtei Six, but you must first fight off waves of enemies and mini-bosses to locate your target. Completing each wave unlocks buffs, allowing you to build a powerful combination of skills and equipment for your character before facing the final boss of the bounty. Bounties can be accepted repeatedly, with difficulty gradually increasing, eventually leading to the highest-difficulty bounty target—Saito himself.
Along the way, you'll earn coins that can be used to unlock new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms, and playable characters at the end of a mission. Additionally, appearances earned while challenging "Most Wanted" will also be unlocked in the main game, allowing Atsu to wear them during her initial journey of revenge or when playing the new story expansion for Ghost of Yōtei, "Strings of Sekigahara."
Once all four characters are unlocked, you can freely choose your character. Each character starts with a katana, as well as their own unique weapons, techniques, special abilities, and kill streak moves. We recommend trying out each character to see how they utilize different methods to take down troublesome enemies.
The default starting character for "Most Wanted" is Atsu, who wields dual blades and two Ghost tools: Blind Powder and Blinding Bomb. Atsu's special ability is "Call Wolf Companion," which summons two wolves to knock down nearby enemies. Her kill streak move is Wraith Roar, which intimidates all nearby enemies and causes one enemy to flee.
The second playable character is Yuki, equipped with a kusarigama, kunai, and Tanegashima rifle (matchlock gun). Yuki's special ability is "Shadow Killer," which allows her to quickly assassinate two nearby enemies after deploying smoke. Her kill streak move is Shadow Ninja, which summons a nine-tailed ally to fight alongside her, automatically assassinating enemies for a period of time.
The third playable character is Nagato, whose weapons include a spear, pistol, longbow, and half-bow. Nagato's special ability is "Gambler's Mark," which locks onto two enemies and launches an attack that guarantees headshots. His kill streak move is the Explosive Arrow, which restores Focus and grants an explosive arrow.
Finally, the fourth playable character is Jin Sakai. Our animation and character art teams put significant effort into faithfully recreating Jin Sakai's character model from Ghost of Tsushima while also upgrading and adapting him for his appearance in Ghost of Yōtei. Jin can use a katana and all four stances from Ghost of Tsushima, making him effective against enemies weak to specific stances. His starting equipment also includes a half-bow and a sticky bomb. His special ability is "Dance of Wrath" from Ghost of Tsushima, which allows him to lock onto multiple enemies and disarm them at once. His kill streak move is, of course, the Ghost Stance, which intimidates nearby enemies and instantly kills a certain number of them.
In addition to choosing your playable character, the key to creating a unique combination of equipment and abilities for your character in Ghost of Yōtei's "Most Wanted" mode is selecting buffs. During the hunt, players have many opportunities to choose new buffs, including weapon enhancements, tool sets, summonable allies, parry buffs, survival buffs, and more. These help players craft the perfect equipment and ability combination for their character—experimenting with different buff mixes can lead to challenging situations or trigger unexpected effects, bringing the most exciting surprises.
In addition to revealing the "Most Wanted" trailer for Ghost of Yōtei and announcing Jin Sakai's arrival, State of Play Japan also released new information about "Strings of Sekigahara."
"Strings of Sekigahara" depicts two stages of Atsu's life: first, her current quest for revenge, and second, the Battle of Sekigahara she previously participated in on the mainland. Players will uncover the past grievances between Atsu and Nagato in Sekigahara, where he was a key figure who fought alongside Atsu.
Now, Nagato has come to Ezo and is being hunted by the Viper Gang; these outlaws loyal to the Viper were left leaderless after his death. The Viper Gang, composed of ruthless poachers, has occupied the Ashoro Hills, a newly revealed region of Ezo that was once teeming with wildlife but is now devastated.
To find an important companion captured by the Viper Gang, Atsu is forced to team up with Nagato once again. In the Ashoro Hills, Atsu will face new types of enemies, wield new heavy weapons, and discover exciting new content such as legends, techniques, armor, and appearances.
Players who already own Ghost of Yōtei can pre-order the Complete Edition upgrade (digital version) for HK$108 to immediately receive all content from the Ghost of Yōtei Digital Deluxe Edition and the Polaris Charm, and gain access to the "Most Wanted" and "Strings of Sekigahara" content for Ghost of Yōtei on October 2. Those who complete their pre-order before September 30 can also unlock Jin's Armor for Atsu early on October 2, without needing to unlock it through playing "Most Wanted."
Players who haven't tried Ghost of Yōtei yet can purchase the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition (digital version) for HK$568 to immediately begin Atsu's journey of revenge in Ghost of Yōtei, join the online co-op Legends mode, receive all bonuses from the Ghost of Yōtei Digital Deluxe Edition and the Polaris Charm, and finally gain access to the "Most Wanted" and "Strings of Sekigahara" content launching on October 2.
The Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition also includes new Photo Mode stamps, additional appearances for New Game+, and new trophies exclusive to "Strings of Sekigahara" and "Most Wanted." If you purchase the digital version before September 30, you can unlock Jin's Armor early on October 2. The physical edition of Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition will be released on October 2.
Finally, let's recap last month's announcement: Ghost of Yōtei will also receive an update via a free patch on October 2, regardless of whether players purchase the Complete Edition upgrade. Every owner of Ghost of Yōtei will receive the Beauty of Yōtei mode for free, allowing them to admire the scenery of Ezo and explore in Photo Mode. Additionally, owners of Ghost of Yōtei will receive new music for Watanabe Mode, which can be listened to throughout the game once activated. The system will also add options to retain the appearance of one armor set while using the stats of another, as well as new high-contrast accessibility settings.
