A new StarCraft title may be imminent, as Blizzard appears to be warming up the audience.
The official StarCraft website has long featured content for StarCraft: Remastered, but the page has suddenly started showing glitches.
The website's background imagery and Battle.net logo are flickering, as if an external signal is interfering with the broadcast.
With BlizzCon scheduled for next week, September 12–13, these signs suggest Blizzard may be hinting at announcing new StarCraft news at the event.
Reports earlier this year indicated that Blizzard was developing a first-person shooter spin-off set in the StarCraft universe, likely to be officially unveiled at BlizzCon.
This in-development StarCraft shooter was first revealed last year in Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier's book, "Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment."
The book reveals that the project was led by former Far Cry series director Dan Hay. He spent ten years at Ubisoft Montreal, leaving in 2021, during which time he played a pivotal role in the franchise's most successful period.
Another report in February indicated that a second StarCraft shooter had also entered development, being co-developed by Nexon, the studio behind Arc Raiders.
A report from South Korea stated that Nexon's shooter division has begun "full development" on a new title using the StarCraft IP.
Schreier later stated that Nexon's project is likely unrelated to the StarCraft shooter mentioned in his book, meaning Blizzard has at least two similar projects in the works.
Blizzard has previously attempted to create StarCraft-themed shooters twice, under the codenames "Ghost" and "Ares," but both projects were ultimately canceled.
