According to GamesRadar, after the 1.0 version of Palworld launched, the number of concurrent players on Steam quickly reached 960,000. John Buckley, Head of Communications and Publishing at Pocketpair, stated that this result far exceeded the team's previous expectations.
Buckley originally thought that if the 1.0 version could attract 200,000 concurrent players, it would already be worth celebrating. This target was less than 10% of the peak concurrent player count during the game's Early Access launch, but the actual number was nearly five times their expectation. Before the 1.0 release, Palworld had around 45,000 concurrent players on Steam.
In an interview during Gamescom, Buckley said the team did not expect the 1.0 version to achieve such results. The game not only saw a significant surge in sales again but also brought major changes to the studio, which the team is very happy about.
Pocketpair previously anticipated that the 1.0 version would bring back a batch of long-time players who hadn't played for a while to experience the new content. What truly surprised the team was that a large number of players purchased and played Palworld for the first time. Buckley mentioned that the team once believed the game might have already reached the upper limit of its existing audience.
Pocketpair is currently expanding the Palworld series through spin-offs, including the more casual farming simulation game Palworld Farms, as well as a Palworld MMORPG developed by a third party. Buckley stated that the team hopes to satisfy more players' preferences with different types of games.
The direction for Palworld Farms came from early player requests: reduce elements like firearms, base building, and resource gathering, allowing players to interact with Pals in a more relaxed way. Regarding future updates for the main Palworld game, Buckley clarified that the development team does not plan to spend a year creating a massive 1.1 update.
