Publisher 2K and developer Firaxis Games have announced that Civilization VII will receive a major update, "Arc of Tomorrow," a paid expansion, "Out of This World," and Update 1.5.0.Update 1.5.0 launches in September, with the major free update "Arc of Tomorrow" and the paid expansion "Out of This World" coming in 2027.
What Does Update 1.5.0 Bring?
Later this month, players will experience Update 1.5.0, which brings numerous quality-of-life improvements to the game, as well as the long-awaited "True Starting Positions: Earth" map.
Earth Map and True Starting Positions – This new map generates real-world terrain, landscapes, and resources, allowing players to delve deeper into the fantasy world of historical role-playing. Players' campaigns will begin at locations on the map representing their civilization's real-world origins. Each game will generate different natural wonders at these respective locations, keeping the experience fresh even on familiar maps.
Map Updates – The "Unknown Lands" and "Random Map" types have been updated using the Voronoi map generation algorithm. This helps ensure these map types are more diverse and appear more natural.
Resource Generation Updates – Faster map loading and generation, with resource placement feeling more diverse.
Diplomacy System Updates – Players can use influence to remain in alliances without being dragged into their allies' unjust wars.
User Interface Updates – Additional updates to tile tooltips, settlement flags, and game settings, along with a new tile ruler to assist with city planning.
"Arc of Tomorrow" Update Content
"Arc of Tomorrow" is a major free update scheduled for release in 2027, introducing the Atomic Age. Players can sign up for the Firaxis Feature Workshop for a chance to experience "Arc of Tomorrow" content in the first round of playtesting later this year.
The Atomic Age – A brand-new fourth era that extends the playable historical timeline from the 1950s into the near future.
Modern World and Visuals – Grand city architecture, updated technologies and urban greenery, new achievements, social policies, narrative events, and more.
New Civilizations and Leaders – A series of period-specific civilizations, along with the return of leader Gandhi.
Expanded Nuclear Gameplay – New offensive and defensive options and units introduce new mutually assured destruction mechanics.
New Empire Management Tools – Players can recognize the independence of settlements and release them as city-states, gaining new tools to address issues of empire size and loyalty.
Cinematic Masterpieces – Film crews will search for the perfect filming location, which depends on the desired film genre. Depending on the production quality of the film, filming locations will yield different returns.
Manufactured Goods – Combine specific commodities according to recipes to produce brand-new, powerful resources, such as enriched uranium.
