Xbox recently announced a major adjustment to its cloud gaming strategy. Players will now have limited game time, with Game Pass Ultimate users capped at 15 hours. This sounds absurd, but we finally know the reason why.
According to Windows Central, the computational demands of artificial intelligence (AI) are causing losses for Xbox's cloud gaming business. As a result, the company faces losses after 15 hours of usage. This is also why they require payment for usage beyond 15 hours.
Although cloud gaming is not yet the most popular way to play, it is undoubtedly convenient for those who don't have a PC or can't afford expensive hardware, especially in the current AI-driven market with inflated prices.
However, this new service time limit may deter users who want to try the service and could even drive away some existing users; nevertheless, given the high demand for computing power in the current market, this restriction seems necessary.
