The new gameplay footage has sparked lively discussion among players. Some criticized the QTEs, kill animations, and character movements, while others expressed concerns about the developer's future operations, with joking comments like "How long until the dev team runs off with the money?"
"Halloween: The Game" is adapted from the classic 1978 horror film. Set in the town of Haddonfield on Halloween night, it features 1v4 asymmetric sandbox gameplay. One player assumes the role of the killer Michael Myers, using the shadow displacement skill "Shape Jump" to conceal themselves and hunt residents in the dark. Up to four other players play as town survivors, who must rescue AI civilians, gather supplies, call for police support, and use environmental items for self-defense and survival. A key feature is the large number of NPCs with independent behavioral logic; residents will call the police or resist when encountering the killer, adding a vivid sense of immediacy to the town.
In addition to the multiplayer versus mode, the game features a single-player story campaign, a rarity among similar titles in the series. This campaign retells the events of the original film's night from Michael Myers' perspective. Cosmetic rewards unlocked in single-player mode can be carried over to multiplayer. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game faithfully recreates classic locations such as the Haddonfield neighborhood and the Myers house. Lighting and electrical systems can be sabotaged; Michael can cut the power to create blackouts and hunt in the darkness. As Michael cannot be permanently killed, survivors focus on completing match objectives, differing from the win/loss logic of traditional asymmetric horror games.
