Recently, during CDPR's H1 2026 earnings call investor Q&A session, Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski responded to investor inquiries regarding the development progress of The Witcher 4. Positioned as CDPR's largest and most ambitious open-world RPG to date, the game targets a 2028 release, but no exact launch date has been confirmed yet.
Nowakowski confirmed that The Witcher 4 has entered full production. The team has finalized the game's overall direction, core gameplay, and content framework, with the current main focus being on filling out the game's content. The project includes numerous internal development checkpoints and milestones, but most are technical validation standards for internal use only, offering limited reference value to external players and investors. Therefore, the official team will not disclose the progress of every specific milestone.
Nowakowski stated, "We have a clear understanding of the kind of game we are building. We conduct internal reviews for each batch and milestone to assess development progress, identify blockers, and determine if further iteration and polishing are needed. However, we do not disclose these details publicly. Our focus remains on diligently completing the game's development until its release."
CDPR officially acknowledged that the development progress of various modules in The Witcher 4 is uneven: some side quests and writing tasks are advancing faster than expected, while the combat system still requires extensive polishing and bug fixes. It is difficult to summarize the overall progress of such a large-scale project with single Alpha or Beta milestones, as it also involves significant technical work like multi-platform performance optimization. Looking at history, The Witcher 3 also experienced two delays back in the day, so 2028 is merely a target window and remains subject to change.
The company also mentioned that their internal development process has learned lessons from Cyberpunk 2077, implementing strict cross-platform technical validations. If a version for any platform fails to meet the stage standards, the corresponding development milestone cannot proceed, preventing issues from accumulating until the final stages of development.
