SE has no intention of concluding the story of Final Fantasy VII after the completion of the remake trilogy. According to project director Naoki Hamaguchi, the company aims to transform FF7 into an evolving series that will continue to attract new fans for many years to come.
During a panel at PAX West, Hamaguchi explained that the trilogy is not merely a modernized remake of the 1997 classic. Its core objective is to pass Final Fantasy VII on to the next generation of players and ensure its relevance for decades to come. "We want to create a work that will still attract new fans 20 or even 30 years from now," Hamaguchi stated.
SE's presentation materials also mentioned the company's intention to "expand the future of FF7," shifting the series beyond its status as a "classic of the past" into an IP with ongoing development. This could mean new games and other projects set in the Final Fantasy VII universe following the conclusion of the remake trilogy. However, SE has not yet announced any content scheduled for release after Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and its two planned DLCs. The final installment of the trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is expected to launch in 2027.
