According to MP1st, Sony's classic first-person shooter series Killzone is expected to make a comeback. Insiders revealed that Guerrilla Games has partnered with an external studio to launch a Killzone remake or HD remaster project, which is currently in the very early stages of development. Although it is not yet clear which installment will be targeted, the industry generally believes that the 2004 original is the most likely candidate for prioritized refurbishment.
It is understood that this project was originally planned to become Guerrilla's main development focus after Horizon: Hunters Assemble. However, due to the recent negative feedback for Hunters Assemble, which has led to its rework, fixing that title has become the team's current top priority. Therefore, the full-scale development of the new Killzone project may need to wait until Hunters Assemble is completed. Additionally, there are reports that Horizon 3 will be scheduled after this Killzone project, but since the project is still in its early stages, plans remain subject to change.
Regarding the partner, reports indicate that Sony signed a co-development agreement with developer People Can Fly in March 2025, where both parties will create a project codenamed "Delta" based on an existing PlayStation IP. Multiple sources strongly imply that this project is the new Killzone title mentioned. If true, this would be another major project for PCF following their collaborations with companies such as 2K, Krafton, and Microsoft.
There are currently differing accounts regarding the nature of the project. Some rumors suggest it could be a complete reboot, but the most consistent information still points to a classic remake with significantly enhanced graphics. Notably, the last mainline entry in the series was Killzone Shadow Fall, released on PS4 in 2013, whose multiplayer servers were shut down in August 2022, over a decade ago.
As of now, neither Sony nor Guerrilla Games has issued an official response to this matter. Given that the project is still in its early stages, it may take some time before its official reveal.
