Dutch artist and social designer Wouter Siwerts has released a free browser game called Build That Bridge, directly responding to the White House's earlier release of Build The Wall. The new title retains the block-stacking and clearing mechanics but replaces wall-building with constructing bridges that connect both sides of a river.
The White House recently launched several mini-games inspired by classic game formats on Arcade.Gov. Leo's Run adopts gameplay similar to Snake, where players must collect individuals wearing orange prison uniforms, with each round ending with a count of those "deported." Build The Wall: Zombie Border Siege draws inspiration from Tetris, requiring players to stack bricks along the so-called "southern border" to block approaching "outsiders."
Build That Bridge reverses the core mechanics of Build The Wall. After players clear blocks, the bridge extends from both riverbanks toward the center, eventually connecting the two sides.
Siwerts stated that games can help people understand the world and connect with different cultures and customs. He created this title for players who wish to "build bridges, not walls," hoping participants can use it to express their stance.
Players can create their own bridges or join others in construction. Riverbank markers indicate where participants are from, while real-time counters track the total number of bridge builders, the current number of online builders, and the total number of "encounters" that have occurred on all bridges. Siwerts refers to this constantly changing data as the collective voice of the players.
The Tetris Company, which holds the rights to Tetris, previously stated publicly that it was not involved in the production of Build The Wall and emphasized its commitment to copyright issues. The company also expressed its belief in the power of connecting people, a concept Siwerts believes Build That Bridge puts into practice.
