NVIDIA's DLSS 5 technology has finally launched amidst controversy, debuting with NBA 2K27. However, there are still many limitations, with official support currently restricted to RTX 50 series graphics cards.
RTX 40 series graphics cards are said to be supported, but this will require future technical upgrades, with no confirmed timeline. Don't expect high performance either.
DLSS 5 was cracked as soon as it was released. Not only can it be used in unsupported games, but it also supports AMD graphics cards.There's also a third-party community software called DLSS-5-MANAGER, which recently released version 1.1.6 with numerous updates.
It not only adds support for PRCS3/2 emulators and Vulkan games, but the installer size has also been significantly reduced from 1.2GB to 473MB. It has been open-sourced, but redistribution by individuals under their own name is prohibited.
The most anticipated feature is the promised support for AMD graphics cards, though you'll have to wait for it.
Impatient users can try various manual methods found online. Support for DLSS 5 on AMD graphics cards isn't new; some people have already experimented with it a few days ago, so you can try it yourself.
Although DLSS 5 can support AMD graphics cards, the biggest issue right now is performance.For a decent experience at 4K, you'll need an RTX 5080 or RTX 5090, while 2K requires at least an RTX 5070 for better performance.
As for AMD, previous modified solutions supporting DLSS 5 performed even worse. Aside from early adopters, there's little point for average users to tinker with this. We'll have to wait and see when AMD releases its own version of DLSS 5.
