Deep Silver recently released new screenshots for Metro 2039, showcasing the game's eerie atmospheres and monsters. The title is scheduled for release in February 2027 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Metro 2039 deliberately returns to the meticulously crafted level design philosophy of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, moving away from the large-scale sandbox areas seen in Metro EXODUS™. The game still features vast explorable regions, including the surface ruins of Moscow. However, 4A Games is focusing on handcrafted, narrative-driven linear spaces rather than traditional open worlds.
4A Games describes the game's environments as "breathtakingly beautiful," all built by hand, spanning from "the diverse life at Sevastopol Station to the deadly nuclear-contaminated surface of Moscow."
