New Gameplay Footage for "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake" Reveals Active Jumping Feature for the First Time

Recently, Nintendo released new gameplay footage for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, showcasing the most significant control change: active jumping with the X button. This title is a full remake exclusive to Switch 2, scheduled for release on November 5, 2026.

Gameplay Video:

The original N64 version of Ocarina of Time did not have a dedicated jump button; Link would only auto-jump when running off edges, leaving players unable to control the timing manually. The remake adds manual jumping: pressing the X button makes Link jump in place, allowing him to clear obstacles like rocks and gaps. Jumping while climbing vines also speeds up ascent, significantly enhancing exploration freedom.

The short demo takes place in Kokiri Forest, fully demonstrating ground jumps and vine jumps. Beyond jumping, the remake includes numerous modern improvements: free camera rotation, quick equipment switching, and gyroscope aiming for the slingshot. A new "Timeline" feature helps players track story progress. NPCs now have voice acting, and towns feature realistic day-night cycles. Nintendo deliberately retained the original loading screens to preserve the atmosphere of the classic game.

Many players praised this optimization for aligning with modern gaming habits, resolving the issue of unpredictable landing spots from the original's auto-jump. However, some worry that active jumping might alter the puzzle-solving rhythm of the original levels. Nintendo has not yet clarified whether a retro option to revert to "original auto-jump" will be provided.
