On August 26, 2026, PC Gamer reported that Ubisoft had released the original Heroes of Might and Magic III along with its two expansion packs on Steam, priced at 40 CNY in the Chinese region. However, this version currently fails to launch properly, with the downloaded content seemingly lacking the actual game files.
Previously, Steam only offered Heroes of Might and Magic III HD, released in 2015. The HD version did not include the expansion packs or the random map generator, so players who wanted to experience the complete original content usually opted for the GOG version.The original version now available on Steam includes both expansion packs, Armageddon's Blade and The Shadow of Death, filling in the missing content from the HD edition.
After purchase, the downloaded installation files are only 23.49KB in size. When launching the program, the system displays a "stub executable" error, preventing entry into the game; the actual files for Heroes of Might and Magic III cannot be found in the installed content either.As of the time of this report, the negative review rate for this version on Steam has reached 80%.
