Following the release of Red Desert on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, Pearl Abyss is working on a port for Switch 2—a major test of the console's ability to handle the Blackspace Engine. Meanwhile, the studio is also progressing with the development of DLC expansion content.
While it was confirmed last week that the DLC is scheduled for release within 2026, the Korean developer remains tight-lipped about specific details. However, players have found possible clues by analyzing changes in recent game updates—suggesting the new content may point toward an ocean theme.
A video posted by YouTube user NANGPLE showcases these changes, including blue seaweed appearing underwater and white sandy beaches along the coast. However, the most notable change occurs outside the explorable area—the adjustments to what the community calls "South Island" seem to be optimizing the region, possibly in preparation for the upcoming DLC.
Additionally, the latest update has improved the performance of the sea area near the northern desert, making underwater regions visible. The most significant new discovery appears to be a mysterious underwater island in the eastern part of the map.
Although an ocean theme might seem unexpected for Red Desert, if true, it would introduce many interesting gameplay mechanics, further expanding the player experience.
