Stardew Valley has been out for ten years. Barone is developing his next game, and while the pace of updates for Stardew Valley has slowed in recent years, he continues to work on the 1.7 update.
Barone hinted at the update content on Discord with three phrases: "Two paths will extend," "Three will become four," and "The Mermaid's Fruit will be set free." He did not provide further explanation regarding which game content these phrases correspond to.
Some players speculate that "two paths will extend" may relate to Clint and Sandy, while "three will become four" could refer to an increase in the number of children in town, with current relevant characters being Jas, Leo, and Vincent. These are all player interpretations of the clues and have not been confirmed by Barone.
Players have different theories about what the "Mermaid's Fruit" refers to. One theory links it to the farmer's children, suggesting the clue might involve them leaving the farmhouse as they grow up. Barone has not clarified the meaning of this phrase either.
The previous major update, 1.6, took over three years to develop and was released in 2024. Barone has not yet announced a release date for the 1.7 update.
