French hardware manufacturer Kubb recently completed an outrageously extravagant custom order, creating a pure 24K gold version of the Kubb Fanless mini PC for a gold enthusiast.
This extremely luxurious device costs up to $1.7 million (approximately 11.95 million RMB), with its chassis crafted entirely from pure gold.
Reportedly, the original intention behind this custom PC was to leverage gold's excellent physical properties to enhance cooling performance. The manufacturer claims that due to the pure gold passive cooling chassis, its thermal conductivity is about 30% to 50% faster than standard aluminum alloy materials.
However, from a physics perspective, gold is far from the optimal solution for heat dissipation. Public data shows that gold's thermal conductivity is approximately 314 W/mK, which is significantly higher than aluminum's 205 W/mK, but silver and copper boast thermal conductivities of 406 W/mK and 385 W/mK respectively, both outperforming gold.
Copper is even significantly cheaper than gold, meaning that if heat dissipation efficiency is the sole priority, a copper chassis is the more cost-effective and superior choice.
In terms of hardware configuration, the standard Kubb Fanless model can be equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 5 225H, Core Ultra X7 358H, or AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 processor, paired with 16GB DDR5 memory (upgradable to 128GB) and a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, with support for adding a second M.2 drive.
Regarding connectivity, the Intel version offers one USB 3.2 Type-A port, one USB 3.2 Type-C port (DP 1.4a), and one USB4/Thunderbolt 4 port (DP 2.1), supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
The AMD version is equipped with one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A port and two USB4 (DP 1.4a) ports, supporting Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3.
Both models feature two RJ45 Ethernet ports, two HDMI 2.1 ports, and two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports on the side. They use a 19V/6.32A, 120W power adapter, come pre-installed with Windows 11 Pro, and include a 3-year warranty.
