The Witcher 3: Remastered will launch today (September 29), marking the beginning of new content for The Witcher series in the coming years. Future plans include a new expansion in 2027 and The Witcher 4, scheduled for release in 2028.
The remastered version will feature technical and visual upgrades, along with adjustments to the skill system, an expanded photo mode, improved combat, and the addition of equipment transmogrification. Players who already own the original game will receive the remastered version for free.
The new expansion, Tides of the Past, was originally slated for 2026 but has been delayed to 2027. The expansion will chronicle another chapter in Geralt's journey before he "passes the torch," taking players to Rietveld, the homeland of the bard Dandelion. In the new main quest, "Bed of Thorns," Geralt will also encounter Lyra; current descriptions suggest she may become Geralt's romantic interest.
On the literary front, Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher novel series, recently announced at the Copernicon event in Toruń, Poland, that he plans to complete the next Geralt-focused novel by the end of 2027. The publication date for the book is still unclear, and the writing schedule may be subject to change.
CDPR plans to release The Witcher 4 in 2028. Ciri will serve as the protagonist and playable character in the new title, with Geralt also making an appearance.
CDPR has previously stated that, starting with the release of The Witcher 4, they aim to launch a new Witcher trilogy within six years. If this plan proceeds as scheduled, The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6 would be released by the end of 2034; however, it remains uncertain whether this timeline can be achieved.
Among other projects in the franchise, a multiplayer Witcher game is reportedly still in development but has not yet been officially showcased. CDPR is also collaborating with Scopely on a mobile game based on its IPs; it has not been confirmed whether this title belongs to The Witcher series or draws from the Cyberpunk universe.
