Recently, foreign media outlet Comicbook reported that Dan Trachtenberg will direct Disney's new "Sleeping Beauty" film. The movie will draw inspiration from the fairy tale to tell an original story and will not be a direct remake of Disney's 1959 animated feature of the same name.
Disney has continued to release live-action adaptations of its animated works in recent years. As early as 1996, Glenn Close portrayed Cruella in the live-action "101 Dalmatians." Since then, titles such as "Cinderella," "Snow White," and "Moana" have also been adapted into live-action films. While the market performance of these films has varied, Disney continues to push forward with new adaptation projects.
The new "Sleeping Beauty" is also unrelated to the previous two "Maleficent" films. The two "Maleficent" movies grossed approximately $758 million and $489 million worldwide, respectively, for a combined total of around $1.2 billion.
Trachtenberg previously directed "Predator: Badlands." The story for the new "Sleeping Beauty" was developed by him and Rena McCallum, with Alex Anger and Dan Simpff handling the screenplay. Currently, specific plot details and the cast have not been announced.
Last November, well-known journalist Daniel Richtman leaked that Disney was preparing a new "Sleeping Beauty" film, which would directly use Aurora's name as the title, with the main setting in Mexico, suggesting that Aurora might be portrayed as Latina. These are likely the same project.
