Sony Group has confirmed it will not attend CES 2027, scheduled for January in Las Vegas, USA. Neither the group nor its affiliates will set up booths for new product launches, marking the first break in Sony's continuous participation in CES since 1967.
Sony had been a long-time participant at CES, often with large-scale booths. At the 2020 event, then-PlayStation head Jim Ryan unveiled the official PS5 logo for the first time, while also announcing that cumulative PS4 sales had reached 106 million units and PS VR sales had surpassed 5 million.
At CES 2025, Sony participated under the theme "Creative Entertainment Vision," outlining its direction for the next decade. Hiroki Totoki, President, COO, and CFO of Sony Group, introduced XYN, an integrated hardware and software solution supporting spatial content creation, as well as technology that generates 3D CG from 2D camera images.
CES is organized by the Consumer Technology Association. While initially focused on consumer electronics, the show has seen a growing presence of automotive and AI-related exhibits in recent years. CES 2025 featured over 4,500 exhibiting companies and attracted approximately 141,000 attendees.
Regarding its exhibition plans, Sony stated in a press release that it would continuously evaluate how to participate in events and engage in external communications based on the needs and priorities of its various businesses. Going forward, Sony will place greater emphasis on its entertainment sectors—including games, animation, film, and music—as well as on intellectual property and technologies that support creators.
