CD Projekt RED has confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered supports existing save files, and unlocked achievements and trophies will carry over. With graphical and technical upgrades, players looking to revisit Geralt's adventures can either continue with their old saves or start from scratch.
On September 1, CD Projekt RED stated that existing save files can be used with the upgraded version of the game, allowing players to continue from where they left off. Cross-platform save functionality also makes it convenient for players to transfer their progress and jump directly into the late-game content of their existing characters.
This upgrade adds ray tracing, 4K textures, a 60 FPS performance mode on consoles, as well as content related to the Netflix series and mod support. The game also adjusts the quick-cast mechanics for signs and camera angles. Loading saves from years ago may save time on progressing through the story, but players might need to re-familiarize themselves with previous quest choices and controls.
Choosing to start a new game allows you to begin in White Orchard, gradually adapt to the adjusted camera and sign controls, and make story choices again in sequence. However, you'll need to re-accumulate equipment, alchemy items, and exploration progress; reaching late-game content will require more time investment.
Players can also load old saves to start "New Game+" directly. This allows them to retain their existing equipment and skills while experiencing the story from the beginning, striking a balance between carrying over progress and starting fresh.
