AMD has announced plans to acquire AI research company World Labs in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $8.2 billion. Co-founded by Fei-Fei Li and others, the company's product, Marble, can generate interactive 3D worlds from text prompts.
Founded in 2024, World Labs reached a valuation of $1 billion within months of its establishment. In 2025, the company launched its first commercial product, Marble, which utilizes world generation models to create interactive 3D scenes.
The deal is expected to close by the end of this year. At that time, Fei-Fei Li will become AMD's Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist, reporting to AMD CEO Lisa Su. The World Labs team will continue to focus on AI model research.
AMD stated that the acquisition will enhance its ability to develop AI hardware, software, and systems in response to the demands of emerging models and applications. Lisa Su noted that building next-generation AI computing platforms requires a deep understanding of how models evolve, and the research expertise of the World Labs team will support related product development.
Fei-Fei Li stated that joining AMD is the next step for World Labs to advance its research goals, with both parties planning to continue collaborating with the community and industry ecosystem. The acquisition is currently pending completion.
