"Galaxy Boundary" Mobile Game Opens Steam Page After Over Two Years of Shutdown, Plans to Release Single-Player Version

Etherous Games has opened a Steam store page for the turn-based strategy RPG Galaxy Borderline, planning to release this mobile game, which shut down over two years ago, as a single-player title. Originally operated on mobile platforms, the game ended its online service in May 2024.

Set in a galactic backdrop, Galaxy Borderline casts players as the commander of the "Ulysses," leading their squad against the Heteromorphic Bugs while unraveling the mysteries of the ancient civilization known as the "Horizon Labyrinth." The game launched its open beta in July 2023 but ceased online services less than a year later.

In a previous interview, developer Miyako reflected that the emergence of competing titles led to a decline in revenue, and the planned overseas release never materialized, leaving the team unable to secure the funds needed for continued development. In a video released on September 28, Miyako stated that after the team disbanded, they wanted to preserve the work in another form, but the game mechanics required reworking, and there was no team available for sustained development at the time.

Following this, ongoing negotiations among relevant parties focused on preserving the characters, story, and world setting, ultimately leading to the announcement of this single-player version plan. The accompanying video also stated that crowdfunding for the project will begin on September 30.

The game features up to 72 squad members, each with unique classes, weapons, and skills. Players must organize their teams based on roles and consider map terrain, turn order, and battlefield hazards like turrets and mines during combat. In addition to the main story, the game includes side quests and personal stories for squad members.
