Total War: WARHAMMER III New Content Draws Players Back, Steam Peak Concurrent Users Surpass 100,000

Total War: WARHAMMER III broke 100,000 concurrent players on Steam last weekend, reaching its highest peak since August 2022. According to SteamDB data, this marks the game's highest online activity in over four years. In August 2022, the game launched the merged campaign map "Immortal Empires" with its 2.0 update.

This surge in players followed the release of the Thrones of Decay expansion. Launched on September 24, the expansion added four Legendary Lords, each with their own faction mechanics and new military units.

The game also received the 9.0 update around the same time. This update strengthened AI opponents on the campaign map, added new landmark battles and battle scenarios, and implemented hundreds of balance adjustments.

As the player count rises, the new expansion content has also drawn criticism. Some players feel the Undead faction is overpowered; there is also an issue with Tzeentch-related content that prevents players from unlocking new units in multiplayer mode. Developer Creative Assembly stated they are aware of these issues and are preparing a series of hotfixes.
