Minecraft Dungeons 2, an action RPG scheduled for release on September 29, has received reviews from several overseas media outlets. Co-op play has been praised, while some critics noted that the sequel lacks innovation and features repetitive enemy encounters. In the game, players explore unknown regions and battle hordes of enemies.
Destructoid gave it a 90, stating that the game expands and improves upon its predecessor in almost every aspect. XGN awarded it an 85, praising the vibrant world, collectible loot, and gameplay that is easy to pick up yet offers depth, with particular emphasis on co-op play. GAMES.CH gave it an 84, acknowledging the faster combat pace, co-op experience, and expanded world, but also pointing out repetitive enemy encounters, unbalanced tuning, and insufficient character development.
Other media outlets offered more reserved evaluations. GamesRadar+ gave it a 70, noting that while the game is very similar to its predecessor, it remains a polished dungeon-crawling experience suitable for solo, online, or local co-op play. Game Rant awarded it a 60, describing the experience as relaxed but lacking memorable content; GamingBolt gave it a 50, criticizing the game for failing to capture the surprise and creativity of Minecraft.
At the time of writing this review summary, Metacritic lists an average score of 74 based on 13 reviews for the PC version, and 76 based on 26 reviews for the Xbox Series X version. Other platforms do not yet have enough reviews to generate a score. The game is also listed for release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and Switch, with planned support for Game Pass.
