Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 plans to introduce a new mode called "Chain." This mode revolves around two bomb sites, with teams taking turns on offense and defense; players earn cash through in-game actions to purchase equipment between rounds. The currently revealed version is limited to PC.
According to the rules outlined on the Call of Duty blog, players start each match with a pistol and can purchase weapons, equipment, armor, and perks between rounds. Upon death, characters lose their current loadout, and the mode does not offer custom loadouts, killstreaks, automatic health regeneration, or respawns.
Purchasable items include flashbangs, Molotov cocktails, fragmentation grenades, shields, as well as various pistols, submachine guns, assault rifles, and sniper rifles. This system of fund management and offensive/defensive mechanics makes the "Chain" mode similar to Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant.
Activision has described "Chain" as a PC-exclusive mode. According to current information, PlayStation 5 and Xbox players cannot access this mode. Whether it will be included in the Call of Duty League or impact Search and Destroy modes remains unannounced, with no league schedules released yet. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for release on October 23.
