Control: Resonance Lead Designer Discusses PS5 Performance: More Open Environments and Enhanced Physics Interactions

Following the release of Control: Resonance, Senior Gameplay Designer Sergei Mohov discussed in an interview with PlayStation how the team leveraged the PS5 hardware in designing the game. He stated that from early in development, the team aimed to let player choices and actions have a greater impact on exploration, progression, and narrative, expanding the relatively confined spaces of the original Control into more open and expansive environments.

The team also sought to increase draw distances, involve more objects in physics simulations, and present more enemies on screen at once. Mohov described Control: Resonance as Remedy's largest-scale game to date, comparing the size of one area in this title to areas in the studio's previous works.

Discussing the PS5 controller, Mohov highlighted the DualSense's adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. He explained that trigger resistance and haptic feedback help players sense their abilities and combat status, reducing the need to repeatedly check the UI during intense encounters.
