Ubisoft is adjusting its development structure, handing over the oversight of three major franchises—The Division, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell—to its Swedish studio, Massive Entertainment. Following the restructuring, Massive Entertainment has become Ubisoft's Second Creative Business Unit.
Teams from Montreal, Paris, Sweden, and Toronto will operate under a single brand. In addition to the three aforementioned franchises, the business unit is responsible for projects including original games such as The Division: Heartland.
Christophe Hartmann, who was previously appointed head of the Second Creative Business Unit, is now also in charge of Massive Entertainment. He stated that integrating the teams will help pool creative and technical expertise to develop existing franchises and create new games.
This arrangement is part of Ubisoft's ongoing restructuring. The company plans to cut an additional €180 million in costs during the third and final phase of its transformation; the initial savings target was €200 million before being adjusted. Massive Entertainment remains part of Ubisoft, and the publishing and sales of its games will continue to be handled by Ubisoft. According to the company's current statements, this organizational change should not affect its existing commitments to players.
