Resident Evil Long-Term Plan: Future Crossovers Between Remake Timeline and Main Series Storylines

Recently, Jun Takeuchi, Executive Producer of the Resident Evil series, stated that the team is considering how remakes and numbered new titles will converge in the future. Numbered titles continue the ongoing storyline, while remakes allow players to revisit past experiences; as the remake series gradually catches up to the era of the numbered titles, figuring out how these two lines will connect has become a question the team is currently addressing.

Jun Takeuchi mentioned that relevant preparations began gradually with Resident Evil 8: Village. Clues he cited include the reappearance of names such as Umbrella and Spencer, as well as the return of Raccoon City in Resident Evil 9: Requiem.

Discussing the starting point for the remakes, Jun Takeuchi stated that the team decided to produce Resident Evil 2 Remake after the success of Resident Evil 7. At the time, the team also considered that players no longer had easy access to the earlier entries in the series.

Jun Takeuchi indicated that players should be able to understand the meaning of this "convergence" before the series' 40th anniversary. He also hinted that the title "Resident Evil 9: Requiem" contains clues related to "answers" and "questions," with specific meanings to be explained in the future. Currently, he has not announced which title will serve as the point of convergence for the two lines of works.
