Madhumitha, an influencer from Tamil Nadu, India, frequently posted photos of gold jewelry, cash, and even her monthly gold purchases online. Recently, thieves used this information to target her home, stealing approximately 944 grams of gold and other valuables worth nearly 10 million rupees.
Madhumitha is a well-known influencer from the Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu, often showcasing her luxurious lifestyle on short-video platforms. She frequently posted videos flaunting large amounts of cash and gold jewelry, even discussing her monthly gold purchases and filming scenes of showering money on her children. Her long-term updates on Instagram about her schedule and where she kept her valuables, including videos filmed at temples, essentially served as a "guide" for the thieves.
On a Thursday evening in September 2026, Madhumitha and her husband took their children shopping. Upon returning home, they discovered their bedroom wardrobe had been pried open. The thieves used power tools to cut through the door locks, demonstrating skilled techniques and clear prior reconnaissance. Stolen items included 118 sovereigns (approximately 944 grams) of gold jewelry, diamond jewelry, and cash, with a total value close to 10 million rupees (over $100,000 USD).
Police stated that the thieves had long studied her short videos to map out the layout of her home, the locations of security cameras, and where valuables were stored, making this a meticulously planned theft.
Rachna Gujar, a female influencer from Madhya Pradesh, India, was also robbed after flaunting gold online. She lost approximately 800,000 to 1,000,000 rupees, and the thieves even adjusted the surveillance camera angles to avoid being recorded.
