After Minecraft Dungeons 2 recently launched on Steam, some Windows and Linux players reported launch issues. On SteamOS and other Linux systems, the game currently fails to launch through the Proton compatibility layer. Microsoft has confirmed it is working on Steam Deck support but has not yet announced a completion timeline.
The current peak concurrent player count on Steam is listed at 32,556, but this figure doesn't indicate how many players are experiencing launch issues. While waiting for an official solution, some community members have shared their own troubleshooting methods in Steam reviews. One user believes the issue may be related to missing dependencies required by the Microsoft Store interface; this remains a conclusion drawn from community troubleshooting.
A temporary workaround documented on GitHub requires users to set Steam launch options, run a script to install dependencies, and then copy DLL files to a specified location. The project author states that this is a local Microsoft Gaming Services replacement component for use in the Proton environment, which does not modify the game or include Microsoft's libraries. It requires manual user operation and should not be considered an official patch.
According to the project instructions, users also need to run a script themselves to log into their account and cache the Xbox token; when the game launches, the DLL will read this cache, and no login window will appear within the game.
