Koei Tecmo released Dynasty Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends HD Remaster on October 1, launching on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Producer Tomohiko Sho and Director Hirotaka Iiyama discussed combat adjustments upon release, with online support for co-op mode planned for a post-launch update.
Tomohiko Sho stated that Dynasty Warriors 2 is the most requested title for a remaster in the series. Many players also purchased Legends back in the day, so the team decided to develop both together. He emphasized that this title is a remaster, not a remake.
This title increases the number of enemies displayed simultaneously, revamps stages, and expands battlefield visibility. To maintain a difficulty feel close to the original, the team incorporated officers from recent entries in the series and adjusted combat balance. Hirotaka Iiyama stated that the team re-examined the frame data for nearly all moves, generally expanding hitboxes and increasing attack power; the game also adds dodging, adjusts blocking mechanics, and introduces precise guarding.
The newly added stages are designed for Wei, Wu, and Shu, offering both high-difficulty challenges and opportunities for weapon synthesis and material collection. The synthesis system allows players to adjust weapon attributes and certain abilities.
The co-op mode is currently based on local play, with the team planning to add online support via post-launch updates. As for Dynasty Warriors 3 and subsequent titles, Tomohiko Sho only stated that if this title performs well, the likelihood of future remasters may increase; no new projects have been announced at this time.
