NEOGEO AES+, a collaboration between SNK and PLAION's retro gaming brand PLAION REPLAI, offered hands-on demos at Tokyo Game Show 2026. This console is compatible with original game cartridges, and its release date has been postponed from November 2026 to September 16, 2027.

NEOGEO AES+ is planned to commemorate the 35th anniversary of NEOGEO, aiming to recreate the appearance, specifications, and feel of the original Japanese console. The system uses ASIC chips redesigned to modern standards to replicate the original hardware's operation, rather than employing FPGA or software emulation. In addition to original cartridges, it supports newly released cartridges, with an initial lineup of 10 titles planned.

For connectivity, the console retains the original AV output and adds low-latency HDMI output. The unit features DIP hardware switches to select language, display mode, and overclocking; paired with a memory card accessory, high scores can be saved without needing batteries. On-site hands-on reports using Metal Slug as an example suggest that overclocking can reduce frame delays in games with many objects appearing simultaneously.

Accessories include a replica joystick, white joystick, replica controller, and wireless joystick. The controller interface retains the original 15-pin specification. NEOGEO AES+ is currently scheduled for release on September 16, 2027.
